Conspiracy at Kenyatta: The Case of the Missing Millions
A businessman has been charged at a Nairobi court for conspiring to steal Sh 6.8 million the property of Kenyatta National Hospital.
Samuel Ndothya was arraigned before a Milimani senior principal magistrate Robinson Ondieki where he denied the three criminal counts levelled against him.
The prosecution told the court that on June 7, 2023, at Equity Bank, Kenyatta Avenue Branch jointly with others not before court conspired to defraud Kenyatta National Hospital Sh 6,833,930.
He was also charged with stealing contrary to section 268 (1) of the penal code.
On the mentioned dates, Ndothya together with others who were not before court stole Sh 6,833,930 the property of Kenyatta National Hospital.
Ndothya further faced another count of forged Notification of Award Tender No. KNH/T/25/2022-2023- Supply and delivery of building materials of Sh 14,299,546 purporting it to be a genuine notification issued by Kenyatta National Hospital.
The defence lawyer pleaded with the court to free his client on lenient bond terms citing that he is not a flight risk,
“Your honor my client was arrested on October 19, 2023, in his house in Umoja Estate and he was released on a police cash bail of Sh 100,000 hence he is not a flight risk,” he pleaded.
The lawyer also added that since his release, he has been summoned several times and he has complied with the investigators.
Mr Ondieki released him on a bond of Sh 1 million with a surety of the same amount or alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000 with one contact person.
The matter was scheduled for mention and directions on April 30, 2024.
