Man Accused of Ksh 1.6M Fraud Released on Ksh 800,000 Bond
"Your honor, I pray this court to be lenient in imposing bond terms since I am not a flight risk," he said.
A Nairobi court has released a man accused of obtaining Ksh 1.6 million by pretence on a bond of Ksh 800,000.
Milimani principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo released Benedict Otieno Odongo on the bond above with a surety of the same amount or alternative cash bail of Ksh 300,000 with two contact persons.
The prosecution told the court that Odongo fraudulently obtained the money by pretending to be in a position to supply steel twisted bars of different sizes on behalf of Roggeveld Logistics Limited, which was a false fact.
The offence occurred on February 24, 2025, at an unknown place in Kenya.
The prosecution did not oppose his release on bond.
He denied the charges leveled against him by the prosecution and requested to be released on lenient terms since he is a man of small means.
“Your honor, I pray this court to be lenient in imposing bond terms since I am not a flight risk,” he said.
He also added that he is a family man with a small kid, and the sole breadwinner for his family.
The matter will be mentioned on September 15, 2025, for pre-trial and directions.
