Egypt Power Company Director Charged in Nairobi Over Ksh 2.3M Water Filter Fraud

"Your honor, we do not deny the accused the right to be released on bond, but we request reasonable terms that are commensurate with the offence," the prosecution urged the court.

The Director of the Egypt Power Company has been charged at the Nairobi court with obtaining Ksh 2.3 million by pretence to be in a capacity to import a water filtration machine.

Yasser Abdel Wahab Mohammed appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the charges leveled against him by the prosecution.

The court heard that, on various dates between March 1 and November 30, 2024, in Nairobi county within the Republic of Kenya, fraudulent tricks obtained the said money from Nasra Ibrahim Roble.

He denied the charges and applied to be released on lenient bond terms, citing that he was not a flight risk.

The prosecution did not oppose the application to release him on bond but requested that the court grant terms commensurate with the amount involved.

“Your honor, we do not deny the accused the right to be released on bond, but we request reasonable terms that are commensurate with the offence,” the prosecution urged the court.

The defence lawyer vehemently opposed the prosecution’s plea for terms that match the amount involved and prayed the court to consider that it is a business conducted. The machine is already in the country.

“Your honor, this is an issue of counterclaim where the accused person is claiming from the complainant,” the defence lawyer told the magistrate.

The lawyer further indicated that the accused person resides in Kenya, where he has been for the last four years.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh 200,000 with one Kenyan contact person.

The court further ordered him to deposit his passport in court.

The matter will be mentioned on October 1, 2025, for pre-trial and directions.
