An assistant chief has been charged at a Nairobi court with giving false information to a public servant contrary to the law.

Mohammud Mohamed Khalif the assistant chief of Shabah Sub-location in Garissa gave false information to Fardosa Darmi Jimale a civil registrar at Garissa County.

The court heard that on diverse dates between February 29, 2024, and March 6, 2024, jointly with others who were not before the court gave one Jimale the information contained in the registration forms for the late registration of birth of Abdisalan Ahmed pretending it to be true a fact he knew was false.

Following the false information given by the accused, Fardosa the registrar of persons in Garissa county proceeded to prepare and issue a birth certificate entry number 0082406172 which was dated March 6, 2024, which she ought not have done if the true information was provided.

He was further faced with a second count of abuse of office which is against the law.

The prosecution told the court that Mohammud being the assistant chief of Shabah Sub-location arbitrarily abused the said office by giving the birth certificate in the name of Yahye Abdisalan Ahmed in abuse of the authority of his office.

He appeared before the Milimani chief magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied the charges.

The prosecution did not oppose his release on bond but requested for stringent terms considering the sensitivity of the offence.

The defense lawyer requested the court for leniency citing that his client is ready to follow the directions the court will set.

He was released on a bond of Sh 1 million or alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.

The matter will be mentioned on April 3, 2024.
