Four employees of Fargo Courier Company Limited were charged at a Nairobi court with conspiracy to steal a parcel on transit worth Sh 7 million.
The four appeared before the Milimani chief magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied the charges leveled against them by the prosecution.
George Maingi Mutea, Justus Kyalo Muthama, Joel Kiamba Ndirangu, and Mary Njeri Njau were charged that on diverse dates between April 20, and May 24, 2024, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya jointly with others who were not in court stole a parcel on transit by Fargo Courier.
The said parcel contained 100 pieces of cell phones make of Oppo Reno 11 valued at Sh 7 million that was to be delivered from Eldoret to Nairobi.
Maingi and Kyalo were separately charged with stealing the said cell phones the property of Deq Barre in the same period.
The court heard that the two being employees of Fargo Courier Company Limited stole the parcel on the transit containing the cell phones on the way between Eldoret and Nairobi.
Kiamba and Njeri also faced another charge of handling of stolen goods contrary to section 322 of the penal code.
The prosecution told the court that on the same period at an unknown place between Eldoret and Nairobi otherwise than in the cause of stealing, they jointly arranged the retention of 100 pieces of Reno 11 cellphones.
The defence lawyers pleaded with the court for the accused to be released on lenient bond terms,
“Your honor the accused persons have young families and sole bread winner hence I pray for leniency on their release,” pleaded the lawyer.
The magistrate released them on bond of Sh 3 million with a surety of a similar amount or alternative cash bail of Sh 1.5 million.
The matter was scheduled for mention on June 10, 2024.
