Strong Move to Omwanza as Kisii Lawyers Bid for JSC Job.
Members of the Gusii community have come up in support of their one Ombati Omwanza as the male representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in the coming election.
Ombati will contest his counterpart Eric Theuri the outgoing president of the Law Society of Kenya in the election which will be conducted on February 29, 2024.
The duo will face each other for the second time in a contest after both being on the ballot for the position of the president of the Law Society of Kenya in 2022 where Theuri won.
In the launch of the Gusii Advocate Forum (GAF) on Saturday, the community is now aiming the 4800 votes from registered advocates in that community.
Theuri who was also present in that event which took place at Expressway Lounge along Mombasa Road was welcomed in style by the community but you could predict where they would cast their votes despite cheering for him.
The advocates from the region came up with one accord in supporting Omwanza’s bid to become the JSC male representative and they repeatedly declared openly despite welcoming Theuri in cheers.
According to the Senior Council Dunstan Omari who addressed the forum said that the community has made a purposeful move and they are inviting those who want to negotiate with them politically,
“This is not a matter about profession but politics, the door is open to those who want to negotiate with us not individually but what you will bring on the table will matter,” said Omari.
Omari requested the community to unite and work as a team becoming brothers and sisters of the ballot and supporting people with agendas.
He also added that the community is democratic and they will vote for everybody else who will come up in their request provided there is an agenda presented convincing them to do so.
On addressing the forum, Omwanza assured the community and other advocates outside the community that he is ready to serve everybody since he has the capacity and qualifications for the position,
“I do qualify in contesting the position and I am assuring you that I will prove accountable representative to all of you,” assured Omwanza.
He also assured to champion opportunities for lawyers at the Judicial Service Commission despite removing bottlenecks that hamper their practice of law.
He further added to champion the independence of the judiciary.
