The victims of the 1998 American Embassy Bomb Blast have pleaded with the president to meet them and listen to their grievances due to the pain and suffering they had been going through.
Almost 26 years down the line since the American Embassy was attacked by terrorists they are yet to be compensated.
Led by their chairman also a victim Mr George Ngige, they expressed the pain they had been going through for the last 26 years since the disaster took place on August 7, 1998.
Speaking with journalists at the Milimani law courts on Thursday, he said that this government has abandoned them like previous governments,
“We had been totally abandoned by the government. For the last 26 years we have not been listened to despite appealing to the government to intervene,” lamented Ngige.
Ngige who is leading at least 2000 victims who were affected in the Blast said that some of them have died in destitution without getting justice from the American Government.
They blame President William Ruto for not addressing their grievances to the United States Government on the issue during his frequent visits whereas he knows very well about their case.
The matter had been pending in court for the last 26 years and according to them they had not seen any progress,
“We filed a case in court against the United States Government for compensation but we have not seen any progress,” said Ngige.
When they appeared before the court on Thursday, they claimed to have got the information from the court clerk that the case was not proceeding and they were directed to consult their lawyers.
Ruth Mwihaki who lost her mother in the disaster expressed the pain she had experienced since then being an orphan and pointed her finger at the president for failure to address their case to get justice,
“I lost my mother almost 26 years ago in the disaster and I feel the president has no interest in our case. We had been fighting after our fathers for this long,” said Mwihaki.
The victims reiterated that were it not for the attack on the American Embassy which was targeted by the terrorists their kins would be alive and some would not have sustained body injuries they have and they would not be suffering.
They claim that they suffered the pain which was not meant for them hence claiming compensation from the United States Government because their embassy was the target.
They are pleading with the president to listen to their grievances and appeal for their rights.
