Wetangula Sued Over Debt for German Shepherd Dogs

A city businessman has filed a case in a Small Claims Court in Milimani against the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetangula claiming to be paid Sh 298,000 he has refused to pay after the supply of two German Shepherd dogs and other items.

Isokat Bethwel who is a businessman in Nairobi through his lawyer Ashioya Mogire filed a claim seeking court’s intervention to get paid the said money after the speaker told him he was not going to pay.

According to his affidavit, Isokat says he sought legal intervention when he wrote a demand letter to Wetangula claiming to be paid his money due in 2021.

In his claim statement, Isokat stated that on about June 11, 2021, Wetangula orally contracted him to supply two male German shepherd dogs and offer the training for one month.

At the same time, he requested the claimant to supply another list of items namely four packs of dog food, a dog training sleeve, four pieces of a dog leash and choke chains, four pieces of dog grooming brushes, one piece of a dog nail clipper, five liters of dog shampoo, five liters of Kennel disinfectant and two pieces of dog harness all valued at Sh 348,000.

Wetangula further requested the claimant to train his staff in handling the supplied dogs for one month the assignment he agreed to undertake for Sh 50,000.

He also stated that on or about July 13, 2021, Wetangula paid him a total of Sh 100,000 through a cheque from NCBA bank and remained with a balance of Sh 248,100 which he has waited for years but all in vain.

After several trials to reach him in various ways to recover the balance, Wetangula “rudely and adamantly informed me that he would not pay me the balance.”

Being helpless and dire to get his money, he sought legal action from an advocate who wrote a demand letter to the respondent unfortunately he did not respond neither did he attempt to clear the balance.
