Bound by Justice on The Saga of Davis Nathan Chelogoi’s Land Fraud Case

A former provincial administrator Davis Nathan Chelogoi has been warned by the court against politicizing a Sh 1.3 billion land fraud.

Milimani senior principal magistrate Dolphina Alego told Chelogoi she would not hesitate to cancel the bond should she read in the media anything prejudicial about the case.

Ms Alego gave the warning to Chelogoi when she reduced the Cash bail of Sh 5 million earlier given to Sh 2.5 million.

The magistrate reduced the bond after the accused said he could not raise the cash given earlier of Sh 5 million.

Chelogoi, who was brought to court from prison custody disclosed that he could not even be admitted to Nairobi Hospital as ordered earlier because he has experienced financial constraints,

” Chelogoi cannot meet the bond terms pronounced because he has financial difficulties, I pray this court reviews the Sh 5 million cash bail downwards,” stated his lawyer Brian Asa.

The lawyer also added they cannot raise a Sh 10 million bond.

However, the review was opposed by Suleiman Bashir saying the earlier bond terms are reasonable.

He said that the previous characters and conduct of the accused would not favour a reduction since he has skipped court five times.

In her ruling, the magistrate said that due to humanitarian grounds, she would review the bond terms downwards.

The magistrate directed two contact persons a daughter of the accused and a family friend to ensure Chelogoi attends the hearing on the matter on April 9, 2024 failure to which she will cancel the bond.
