Businesswoman Charged in Ksh 60M Fake Laptop Tender Fraud

The prosecution informed the court that the accused has another pending matter related to the current one in court number 7.

A  businesswoman has been charged at a Nairobi court with conspiracy to defraud a British national Ksh 60 million in a fake laptop tender.
Appearing before the Milimani Resident Magistrate Joan Mati, Joy Wangari Kamau denied the two counts of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money by pretense, and forgery presented by the prosecution.
The court heard that Wangari, jointly with others already befre the court on diverse dates between September 4 and December 30, 2023,at an unknown place within Nairobi county conspired to defraud Ksh 60 million from Vija Virma by pretending to be in a position to secure for him a tender for supply of laptops and other accessories to the Ministry of Informaation Communication and Digital Economy, information that was force.
In the second count, she denied fraudulently receiving USD 398,000 (Equivalent to 60 million) from the said Virma.
In the last count, she was charged with forging a Request for Quotation reference number MICT/VOL1/VACC/2023-1, purporting it to be a genuine and valid document issued by the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Digital Economy, a fact that was false.
The court heard that she intended to defraud NTV Mobile Telcom and Accessories Trading FZCO, to the tune of USD 398,000.

The prosecution informed the court that the accused has another pending matter related to the current one in court number 7.

They told the court that the said matter, E257/2024, is coming up for a hearing on June 25, 2026.Further, they requested that the court move the current case file to court 7 for consolidation. “Your honour, the accused has another pending matter in court 7; I was praying this matter to be placed before court 7,” the prosecution submitted.

The defense lawyer did not object to the prosecution’s request to have the matter be moved to court number seven.
