Spiked and Robbed: Reveller Narrates Ordeal After Losing Ksh 850K Cash and Valuables
"They had tried to break the window in vain. When I regained consciousness, I was requested to open the window. I could not understand anything, but I was taken to the hospital by police, where the doctor did a report that is before this court: I was spiked," he told the Magistrate.
A reveller has explained to a city Magistrate how a night out with two women ended up spiked, losing Ksh 850,000 in cash and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of shillings.
Joseph Maina Ngaruiya testified before the Milimani Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, explaining how he lost money and other valuables in a night club in Ruai, in the company of two women whom he met in the club.
Ngaruiya, who is a contractor, told the court that it was on July 25, 2025, at around 11:00 hours when he went to Ruai, to Tom Cut club, where he ordered wine and started enjoying himself.
“Your Honour, I was alone at the table I secured when I ordered a wine. My friend accompanied me later, excused myself for a short call, leaving him guarding my drink and two phones,” Ngaruiya said.
Ngaruiya testified that when he got back, he found his friend chatting with two women (now the accused) at a different table, and he thought they knew each other.
They relocated to their table and continued to enjoy. At around 2:00 am, they left Tom Cut Club for Ruai Gardens and continued to order the drinks.
That was the last time he could recall since he found himself at the Utawala area in his Isuzu Double Can pickup, plunged into a ditch surrounded by members of the public and police officers.

After one day in the hospital, he noticed his two mobile phones valued at Ksh 300,000, a wristwatch valued at Ksh 100,000, two gold rings and a necklace all valued at Ksh 30,000, were stolen.
The money had been transferred from her M-Pesa and her Equity Bank account to several phone numbers.
The two accused, Susan Nyambura Gatei and Caroline Nyambura Ngigi, were arrested seven months later, and they were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, stupefying in order to commit a felony and stealing.
They were charged that on diverse dates between July 25 and 27, 2025, within the Ruai and Utawala areas, in Nairobi County, jointly conspired to steal two mobile phones, jewellery , money from mobile money and bank accounts and cash money belonging to Joseph Maina Ngaruiya.
They were further charged with stupefying the said Ngaruiya and stealing from him cash, mobile phones and jewellery, all valued at Ksh 1,280,000.
The hearing will resume on September 23, 2026.
