Legal Challenge Halts National Olympic Committee Kenya Elections

Suspending the elections, Justice Nyakundi said, "I am satisfied the petitioners have an arguable case."

The High Court has temporarily suspended the election of the National Olympic Committee Kenya NOC-K executive officials pending the determination of a case filed by four petitioners.

Sitting at the High Court in Eldoret, Justice Reuben Nyakundi suspended the elections scheduled for today June 19, 2025.

Justice Nyakundi certified as urgent an application filed on June 18 by Joycelene Leah Nyambura, Francis Paul, Andrew Mudibo, and the Kenya Table Tennis Association.

In the application, the petitioners sued the IEBC, the returning officer, Muthee Gakuru, the returning officer NOC-K, Salinik Ole Koiyiet, the secretary general of the Kenya Triathlon Federation, Ndiritu Gikaria, NOC-K, and the sports registrar.

Suspending the elections, Justice Nyakundi said, “I am satisfied the petitioners have an arguable case.”

He directed them to serve the respondents with the suit documents before June 23, 2025, when the matter will be heard inter parte,

“Take notice that any disobedience or non-observance of the order of the court served herewith will result in Penal consequences to you and any other person(s),” Justice Nyakundi ordered.
