The Preaching “Doctor”: Chip Vendor Defends KNH Impersonation Charge in Court

A man who posed as a Kenyatta National Hospital medical staff member has defended himself, saying he preaches on buses and requests a bottle of ‘drinking water’ from the passengers, which is not an offence.
“Your honour, I sell chips and boiled eggs, and the work demands a white dust coat. I put on the same coat while preaching on buses to the passengers to transform from their crooked ways. Furthermore, I have never committed an offence of stealing,” he told the Magistrate.
He told the court that, though the dust coat was white, it was not labelled Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), thereby proving he posed as an employee in the Medical Department.
While he was cross-examined by the state counsel, Akelo Nicholas Ochieng, alias Okelo Nicholas, admitted that he was arrested at the facility while wearing a white lab coat and a staff badge indicating he was an employee there.
“Were you wearing a white lab coat and a staff badge of an employee?” Yes, your honour, he admitted.
Okelo failed to satisfy the court that he was selling boiled eggs and chips, but no evidence was produced to prove the allegations.
He faced three counts of personation contrary to Section 105(b) of the Penal Code and forgery.
On June 9, 2026, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya forged a Kenyatta National Hospital badge, purporting it to be a genuine staff badge issued by the said national facility.
He was also charged with personating a person employed in the public service contrary to the law.
On the aforementioned dates, the accused posed as an employee of the KNH medical department and attended the facility wearing a lab coat and a staff badge of an employee.
The Magistrate scheduled the judgment for August 13, 2026.
