Sudanese National’s Plea Delayed in Ksh 1.2M Food and Luxury Shirts Scam
John Tong Buol Majuach is accused of obtaining Ksh 810,000 from a Kenyan businessman, Paul Kipchumba Mecha, by falsely pretending to be in a position to assist him to venture jointly into a business of procurement and exportation of assorted foodstuffs to the Republic of Southern Sudan for the military, which has a whopping profit, a false fact.
A Nairobi court has postponed the plea-taking of a Southern Sudan national for the second time as negotiations with the complainant are ongoing to resolve the matter out of court.
Milimani Senior Residence Magistrate Daisy Mutai admitted the application by the defence to adjourn the plea taking until Tuesday next week, when the case will be mentioned to know how far the resolution has gone.
“I hereby adjourn the plea-taking of the suspect until Tuesday, June 2, 2026,” the Magistrate ruled.
She directed the suspect to be detained at Kilimani Police Station in the meantime.
The prosecution either did not oppose the application by the defence to adjourn the plea-taking to pave the way for the parties to solve the matter.
According to the court documents, John Tong Buol Majuach is accused of obtaining Ksh 810,000 from a Kenyan businessman, Paul Kipchumba Mecha, by falsely pretending to be in a position to assist him to venture jointly into a business of procurement and exportation of assorted foodstuffs to the Republic of Southern Sudan for the military, which has a whopping profit, a false fact.
In the second count, Majuach is accused of obtaining 25 presidential shirts, five executive shirts, and 10 Polo shirts valued at Ksh 452,500, the property of Paul Kipchumba Mecha, by falsely pretending to pay him after supplying, which was a false fact.
He was further charged with the acquisition of proceeds of crime contrary to Section 4(a)as read together with Section 16 (1)(a) of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act.
The plea taking was adjourned to Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
