Family Feud in Court: Man Bailed Over Alleged Ksh 20M Car Fraud Against Wife

A Nairobi court has released a man who was charged with obtaining motor vehicle registration by false pretence on a Ksh 500,000 bail.
Gidion Gachiri Munge appeared before the Milimani Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo, where he denied obtaining the registration of a motor vehicle registration number KDT 454P, owned by Alice Mungove Mwinzi.
The court heard that he pretended to register the said vehicle in her name, which was false.
The defence lawyer informed the court that the accused and the complainant are a couple and that it is a family issue; hence, asked for leniency in determining the bond terms.
“Your Honour, the complainant in this matter is the wife of the accused. They have three children, and it is a family issue that can be resolved out of court since the subject property was purchased jointly,” the defence lawyer said.
The prosecution did not oppose the release of the accused person on bond but urged the court to grant reasonable terms.
The counsel holding brief for the complainant urged the court to grant stringent terms considering the value of the said vehicle is Ksh 20 million.
“Your Honour, the subject vehicle is valued at Ksh 20 million, and while imposing bond terms, I would like you to consider the value,” the lawyer submitted.
In determination, the Magistrate noted that the prosecution did not oppose the release of the accused person on bond and also the submission by both parties.
“Though the counsel holding a brief for the complainant alleged the subject vehicle was valued at Ksh 20 million, nothing was produced to prove the allegations,” the Magistrate stated.
The accused was granted a bond of Ksh 500,000 or alternative cash bail of Ksh 300,000.
The matter will be mentioned on August 4, 2024,for pre-trial and direction.
