Alleged Somali National Denies Fraud Charges Over Kenyan Passport
Abdirahman Mohamud Jama appeared before the Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Thamara and denied two counts of being illegally in the country and making a false declaration for the purpose of obtaining a Kenyan passport.
An alleged Somali national bearing a Kenyan identity card has been charged at a Nairobi court for being illegally in the country.
Abdirahman Mohamud Jama appeared before the Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Thamara and denied two counts of being illegally in the country and making a false declaration for the purpose of obtaining a Kenyan passport.
The prosecution told the court that, on July 30, 2026, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA, within Nairobi County, being a Somali national and a holder of passport No. P00668516 was found in the country illegally.
In the second count, Jama was charged with making a false declaration for the purpose of obtaining a Kenyan passport by producing a duly filled-in prescribed Form 19, serial number EPP1-KOTVYY6A, to Danford Ngei Mwanzia, an immigration officer, purporting to be a Kenyan citizen, which was a false fact.
He denied the charges and pleaded for lenient bond terms through his defence counsel.
The lawyer told the court that the accused person is a Kenyan residing in Parklands, being the sole caregiver of his ailing father,
“Your Honour, my client is a Kenyan citizen residing in Parklands. I urged this court to grant him lenient bond terms of Ksh 50,000, the one granted in the miscellaneous application,” the lawyer submitted.
The lawyer added that the accused has never absconded court and he would maintain the same virtue.
The prosecution did not oppose his release on bond but requested the court to grant reasonable terms.
The Magistrate released the accused on a bond of Ksh 500,000 with a Kenyan surety of the same amount, alternative cash bail of Ksh 50,000, and two Kenyan contact persons.
The Magistrate further directed the accused person to deposit his travel documents in court and ordered him not to leave Kenyan jurisdiction without informing the court.
The matter will be mentioned in two weeks.
