Atheist Society of Kenya boss Harrison Nyende Mumia has been charged in a Nairobi court with publishing false information against the President.
Nyende Mumia, as he had announced earlier, is to be called after dropping his first Christian name, is the chairman of the Atheist Society of Kenya (ASK), a group that does not believeĀ in the Christian religion.
He was charged in Milimani Law Courts with the offence of cybercrime for publishing false information about President William Ruto.
Nyende alias Robinson Kipruto Ng’etich was charged with publishing, on December 30, 2025, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, the said false information via a Facebook account under the user name Robinson Kipruto Ng’etich.
The prosecution told the court that Nyende posted an image of President William Ruto lying on a bed and falsely portraying him as deceased.
He denied the charges before the Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego and pleaded for lenient bond terms, citing that he is not a flight risk since his place of abode is known.
The prosecution did not oppose his release on bond but urged stringent terms.
The magistrate granted him a bond of Ksh 1 million with a surety of the same amount, with alternative cash bail of Ksh 500,000 with two contact persons.
The Magistrate further directed him to deposit his passport in court.
