Milimani Court: “Fake Son” Has Case to Answer in ID Scheme

During the hearing, the purported mother Fatuma Mohamed who hails from Burat, Isiolo county, left the court in awe after confirming that the alleged son is a stranger and she met him for the first time in court.

A fake ‘son’ who was disowned by the purported mother in court has been put on his defence by a Milimani court on July 10, this year.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi found Abdihakim Said Jama to have a case to answer on a matter where he is charged with Obtaining registration by pretences and being unlawfully present in Kenya,

“The accused person has a case to answer and he will be put on his defence,” the magistrate ruled.

During the hearing, the purported mother Fatuma Mohamed who hails from Burat, Isiolo county, left the court in awe after confirming that the alleged son is a stranger and she met him for the first time in court,

“I met the accused for the first time in court. I don’t know him nor ever met him before,” Fatuma told the court.

Jama who claimed to be Fatuma’s son was charged in 2023 with Obtaining registration by false pretences and being unlawfully present in Kenya.

Fatuma, the complainant produced a list of names of her 8 children and told the court that the accused name was not familiar to her hence disowning being even related by blood.

She explained to the court how the government officers visited her at home on June 2023 produced photos of a man and enquired whether she knew him,

“On watching the photos I did not recognize him and he was not my son,” Fatuma vehemently denied.

In support of the prosecution’s case, Abdi Aliow Issak, a businessman and a member of the vetting committee of the Ngare Mara area location denied taking part in a meeting purported to have taken place in the area where vetting of applicants of National Identity cards was held where the accused person claims to have been vetted and approved in 2011.

The witness also denied signing the documents produced in court, which bear the name of Abdi Aliow. He informed the court that he always signs all official documents with his full three names, Abdi Aliow Issak, and not two, as in the document presented before the court.

Jama was charged with giving false information to a person employed in the public service between March and June 2011 in Isiolo, within Isiolo County, in the Republic of Kenya. He was accused of presenting false documents to the chief to procure a Kenyan Identity Card.

He was claiming to be the son of Fatuma Mohammed whose copy of the National identification card was produced to the office of the registrar of persons.

Further, the accused person presented his obtained Identity card and forged birth certificate entry No. L00906313/13 and serial number 4208657 which belongs to another person.

Jama will appear before the court on July 10, 2025, to defend himself against the charges.
