Nairobi Court Detains Street Boy for 21 Days Over 2025 Ngara Murder

"The fight ensued where the suspect, joined by others still at large, hit the deceased with a sharp object on the back of his head, where he succumbed to the injuries," the officer told the court.

A Nairobi court has detained a street boy for a period of 21 days for investigations, where he is alleged to have committed the offence of murder.

Eric Kamande Muthoni, alias Erico, will spend 21 days in Central Police Station for the DCI to conclude investigations on the case of murder he is alleged to have committed on August 16, 2025.

Corporal Antony Kirimi, a detective from Nairobi, urged the Magistrate to grant him three weeks to complete investigations against Muthoni.

He told the court that the suspect was arrested on January 4, 2026, by members of the public and handed him to Central Police Station over the alleged murder offence that was reported at Ngara Police Station, OB No. 14/16/08/2025.

Mercy Wanjiku Wambui reported the matter and alleged that on August 15, 2025, at around 0200 hrs, while walking from Tsunami market within Ngara area towards the CBD in the company of the deceased Dickson Gitonga Kanyiri alias Kanyiri, the suspect attacked them at the Tsunami foot bridge.

“The fight ensued where the suspect, joined by others still at large, hit the deceased with a sharp object on the back of his head, where he succumbed to the injuries,” the officer told the court.

Given that the suspect is a street boy with no fixed residence and identifiable social ties, he urged the court to grant him the days sought to hold him.

While convincing the court, the officer added that the suspect is willing to cooperate with investigators in the recovery of the murder weapon and the arrest of his accomplices, who are still at large.

The Magistrate gave an order for the suspect to be detained at Central Police Station for 21 days.

The matter will be mentioned on January 27, this year.
