Controversial Businessman Chris Obure to Defend Himself in Forgery and Fraud Case

He was charged with forging a Binding Board Resolution purporting it to have been signed and stamped by Chandulal Shah, Director of AC and Others Ltd, by falsely claiming ownership of Senteu Plaza.

A controversial businessman, Chrisantus Philip Okeyo Obure, alias Chris Obure, has been put on his defence by a Nairobi Court in a case in which he is charged with forgery and fraud.

Obure is charged alongside Nickson Omanda, whom the court found to have a case to answer. They will stand to defend themselves on October 28, 2025.

While delivering the ruling, Milimani principal magistrate Paul Mutai declined the defence’s application to have a mention date before defending themselves while preparing to call their witnesses.

The defence lawyer holding brief for Professor Patrick Lumumba told the magistrate that the accused will call four witnesses who hail from different parts of the upcountry. They must organize their travel documents to come to the country to give their testimony.

“Your honour, we pray for a mention date before the accused appears in court to defend themselves. My instructions are that this court grants a mention date before the accused stands on their defence to facilitate the transportation of the foreign witnesses,” the lawyer pleaded.

The magistrate declined the application, citing no need to drag the matter along since the witnesses do not need to appear in court physically.

“It is not necessary for the witnesses to appear in court physically. They can testify virtually, and if they are not ready by the date the court is going to grant, the accused will start by defending themselves as we wait for the witnesses to prepare themselves,” the magistrate stated.

Obure, whose firm SBS Dunhill East Africa operates from the upscale property, was charged with forgery, uttering false documents, and providing false information to a public officer.

He was charged with forging a Binding Board Resolution purporting it to have been signed and stamped by Chandulal Shah, Director of AC and Others Ltd, by falsely claiming ownership of Senteu Plaza.

On February 10, 2024, at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI Headquarters, Serious Crime Unit within Nairobi County, Obure knowingly and fraudulently uttered a forged Binding Board Resolution purporting it to have been stamped and signed by Chandul Shah, Director of the AC and Others Ltd.

He was further charged with giving false information to a person employed in public service contrary to section 129 (a) of the Penal Code.
