MP Defends Branding School Uniforms with His Name
"Leadership is not only giving empty promises but to take actions towards development," he said.
A member of parliament has dismissed the criticism from his political rivals by branding his name on the school uniforms he donated.
Speaking during an interview, George Kariuki, popularly known as GK from Ndia Constituency, said that the donation came from his funds, disregarding the allegations that it came from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
“The uniforms I donated were bought using my own money, not CDF funds,” he clarified.
He stated that he was moved to support the pupils after visiting their school to commission a multi-purpose hall and a school bus, and found pupils wearing tattered clothes.
“It really touched me when I saw the pupils in tattered clothes,” the MP said.
He defended the branding, saying that it is a common practice even among international aid agencies.
“There is nothing wrong with branding a donation. Even global organizations like UNICEF, World Vision, and Plan International brand their donations,” he stated.
He termed the criticism as vague and politically motivated, citing that the real beneficiaries have not complained about the branding.
Kariuki challenged his rivals by saying they have done nothing to support the pupils, but they point fingers at him for his act of empathy.
“Leadership is not only giving empty promises but to take actions towards development,” he said.
