EABL’s License on the Line as Willis Raburu Files Urgent Ksh 10M Suit

"I urge this court to grant the interim reliefs sought by Raburu to enable him to pay artists who made the Furaha City festivities a success last year," Omari pleaded.

Journalist and content creator Willis Raburu has sued a bee manufacturing company, East African Breweries Limited (EABL), seeking payment of Ksh 10 million for unpaid services.

Pending the determination of the suit, Raburu urged the High Court to suspend the operating license of East Africa’s Premier beer producer until full settlement of the outstanding contractual sum is made.

In the case filed under a certificate of urgency, the former Television anchor claims that EABL has violated his rights and deprived him of lawful earnings.

Through his company, Steizon Limited, Raburu says EABL contracted him to carry out advertisements to promote its products under the banner BebaBeba.

After delivery of the services, the claimant said he was not paid and is now exposed to creditors whom he had brought on board to carry out the advertising services.

The plaintiff says he engaged the services of artists who went around the country conducting comprehensive promotional services in relation to the Furaha City Festival Event.

The journalist is asking the court to compel the beer giant company to pay him forthwith to salvage the breakdown of families of the artists and also salvage his reputation, which is at stake now.

Steizon Limited has named Game Changer Marketing Limited and East Africa Breweries PLC (EABL) as respondents.

Urging the court to intervene, lawyer Danstan Omari has told the court that the act of EABL not to pay Raburu Ksh 10 million for services rendered amounts to economic sabotage and suffocating the spirit of content creators, which is a source of employment to millions of university graduates.

“I urge this court to grant the interim reliefs sought by Raburu to enable him to pay artists who made the Furaha City festivities a success last year,” Omari pleaded.

Steizon is praying that, pending the hearing and determination of the case, the court may issue an injunction suspending, revoking, and canceling EABL’s operating license until the full payment of the contractual sum owed to them.

They further asked the court to compel the beer company and the Game Changer to remit Ksh 10 million plus interest for contractual services performed by Steizon on December 6, 2024, (that this honourable court be pleased to issue an order to EABL to deposit Ksh 10 million to this court pending the hearing and determination of this case.)

The plaintiff has accused the respondents of willfully and deliberately neglecting, failing, and verbally refusing to settle the Ksh 10 million claims despite full performance of the contractual obligations. Obligations.

Game Changer contracted Raburu to provide professional influencing, digital promotion, branding and visibility, logistical execution, event coordination, and communication services for the Furaha City Festival Event, which took place on December 7, 2024, for an agreed consideration of Ksh 10 million.

The matter awaits directions.
