Equity Bank Staff Charged With Stealing Ksh 4 Million
The prosecution did not oppose their release on bond but urged the court to consider the offence committed and give proportionate terms, considering the complainant too.
Two Equity Bank employees were charged at a Nairobi court with stealing Ksh 4 million, the property of the said bank.
Elijah Ndungu Gachanja and Kevin Omato Manwa, relationship officer operations and relationship supervisor, respectively, in the Equity Githurai branch, appeared before the Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi and denied the charges.
They were charged with conspiring to commit the offence of stealing the said money on or before November 2025 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya in conjunction with others who were not before the court.
In the second count, the prosecution told the court that on November 3, 2025, at Equity Bank Kenya Limited, Westlands branch in Nairobi, within Nairobi county, employees of Equity Bank Githurai stole Ksh 4 million, the property of the said bank.
Through their defence lawyer, they requested the court to release them on lenient bond terms, citing that they are not a flight risk and they will comply with the directions set by the court.
The prosecution did not oppose their release on bond but urged the court to consider the offence committed and give proportionate terms, considering the complainant too.
They were released on cash bail of Ksh 400,000 with two sureties of the same amount each.
The matter will be mentioned on November 20, 2025, for pre-trial.
