Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera Sues DG Ayub Savula for Ksh 100 Million Over Defamation
Nabwire is urging the High Court in Milimani to direct the defendant to remit Ksh 100 million to the plaintiff as general damages for libel.
Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera Daraja has moved to the High Court seeking Ksh 100 million compensation from Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Angatia Savula for defamation.
In the application filed under certificate of urgency, he is urging the court to compel Savula to equivocal public apology and retract all the injurious, defamatory, and deragatory statements he made in respect of the HIV status and performance record of the plaintiff.
He is also urging the court to completely bar the respondent, his agents, servants, cronies, or people working under his instructions from making any defamatory, derogatory, or maligning statements, both personal or political.
Nabwera is accusing the deputy governor of the derogatory statements he uttered at the burial of a local school’s principal, which tend to malign his status as an MP.
Savula uttered, “Shule zetu zinaanguka sababu ya huyu mtu amekondakonda ako na ukimwi, Translating that, our schools collapse due to this thin man with HIV.
In his affidavit, the MP state that ”he has posted an extremely stellar performance record through giving out to serve, deliver, and work for his constituents, their political withstanding hence the statements by the deputy governor are instigated by politics to malign his name.”
The MP is accusing the deputy governor by citing that he has put consistent effort jointly with his proxies and agents to tarnish and defame him in a bid to set political scores in fourth coming general election due to his stellar performance to Lugari constituents.
Being represented by lawyer Danstan Omari Nabwera says that he is a family man with adult children in various corporate sectors and entities and the said defamatory words run so deep in their interactions, productivity and engagement with their peer at such levels that they not only injure the plaintiff but also to his family and his roles as the member of Parliament and a former Coca cola and Del Monte employee.
On January 14, 2026, lawyer Omari, under his (Nabwera) instructions, wrote a demand letter to the defendant regarding the said defamatory statements, but no response has been made, prompting him to seek justice in court.
Nabwire is urging the High Court in Milimani to direct the defendant to remit Ksh 100 million to the plaintiff as general damages for libel.
The matter awaits for directions.
