Mike Sonko Handed Partial Win as Court Drops Money Laundering Charges
“I have reviewed the evidence and submissions of the defence. I acquit them on money laundering and place them on their defence in the other four counts,” ruled the magistrate.

The anti-corruption court has acquitted former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in money laundering charges in a Sh14million graft case against him and two others.
Clearing Sonko of the money laundering charge, the trial magistrate said the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to sustain the money laundering accusations against Sonko.
“I have reviewed the evidence presented by the prosecution and submissions by the defense in respect to money laundering charges and proceed to acquit him,” ruled the trial magistrate.
At the same time, Sonko and Fredrick Obok, alias Jamal, and ROG Security Limited were put on their defense in four counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, conflict of interest, and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
The prosecution called ten witnesses.
“I have reviewed the evidence and submissions of the defence. I acquit them on money laundering and place them on their defence in the other four counts,” ruled the magistrate.
The case was fixed for mention on June 4,2026.
In a ruling that was delivered, virtually all the accused persons were ordered to appear in an open court.
The decision represents a partial victory for the former county boss, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing and maintained that the charges against him are politically motivated.
The accused had denied all the counts and is out on bond.
