Senator’s Husband Charged with Hacking Her eCitizen Account to Transfer Toyota Prado
"Your honour, the matter before you is a matrimonial dispute between the accused and the complainant and negotiations are ongoing to solve the dispute out of court," the lawyer told the court.
Nairobi nominated senator Mutinda Maureen Tabitha’s husband has been charged at the Milimani court with offences related to forgery.
Christopher Munene appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrate, Lucas Onyina, facing four counts of forgery, uttering forged documents, and unauthorised access, which are contrary to the law.
The prosecution told the court that on diverse dates between January 19, 2023 and September 2024, at an unknown place within the country jointly with others who were not before the court forged a registration certificate of a motor vehicle KBX 121Q Toyota Prado bearing the name of Maureen Tabitha Mutinda as the registered owner purported to be a genuine certificate issued by the Directorate of Registration at National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) which was a false fact.
He was also charged with offences of uttering a forged document and unauthorised access contrary to the law.
The court heard that Munene on September 30, 2024, at Mogo Auto Limited, Nairobi CBD branch within Nairobi County knowingly and fraudulently uttered a forged Certificate of Registration serial number N5797880L dated January 25, 2023, in respect to the aforementioned motor vehicle bearing a company name ROCX CREST GROUP LTD as the registered owner purporting it to be a genuine certificate issued by the Directorate of registration (NTSA) which was a false fact.
In another count, Munene was charged with obtaining registration of the said motor vehicle on September 30, 2024, at NTSA Headquarters in Nairobi, by pretending to be the owner of the vehicle, a fact that was false.
Further, he was charged with the offence of temporarily causing a computer system to perform functions by infringing security measures with the intent to gain access to the eCitizen account of Maureen Tabitha Mutinda, knowing such an act is unauthorised, and transferred ownership of motor vehicle KBX 121Q Toyota Prado from the legitimate owner, Maureen Tabitha Mutinda.
He denied the charges and, through his lawyer, pleaded for leniency, indicating that negotiations are ongoing to reconcile and withdraw the matter since it is a matrimonial dispute between the accused and the complainant.
“Your honour, the matter before you is a matrimonial dispute between the accused and the complainant and negotiations are ongoing to solve the dispute out of court,” the lawyer told the court.
The court released the accused person with a cash bail of Ksh 100,000 with one contact person.
